Comment: Wow...  2015 now!  Still married to Dawn, re-elected, and grandpa now!  :-)

Greetings again to all of you aging people!  :-)

Today is August 5th, 2010....so, I am updating this page just for you.  Dawn & I have been married now for 6 1/2 years.  My three wonderful children are pretty much grown up and out of the nest.  Alyssa is the oldest, recently married 1.5 years ago and is living in the Denver Co area.  Linnea has been married for 3+ yrs and is living about 9 blocks from me!  Nick is attending school at the U in Mpls....  In 2007, I retired from the Security Hospital and I am blessed to now be getting a pension.  Both of my parents passed away since our last formal gathering 5 yrs ago.  Astrid & Merlin VanDeWege are also missed by my step brother John.  It is hard saying goodbye to a parent, yet they both lived a long blessed life here on earth and were ready for their next adventure!  I ran for public office last fall and won that race so I am now serving as a Blue Earth County Commissioner - Dist. #1, here in the Mankato area.  I guess our lives have gone through some adjustments, just as I am sure many of yours have too.  We are mostly living "large" :-)  and trying to take things one day at a time.  Gods Blessings ---------- Drew

Comment: My husband, Gary, and I have lived in Japan now for 32 years, working with Japanese churches.  Gary is a pastor, and we have helped to start 3 churches.  We raised two boys in Japan that are now both married.  One son lives in Tokyo and has 3 kids, and one son lives in KC.  It is great to see our grandkids once in awhile when we are in Tokyo.

I avoided doing a foreign language in high school, and now I'm living overseas and speaking Japanese!  Living in a country while learning  a language was a big help.

One thing I have been able to do all these years that is connected to high school is play percussion.  I played in the college Wind Ensemble and Orchestra at our school in Chicago.  While we have been in Japan, I've taught some percussion, and also play percussion during our worship services.

Sorry I will miss the 40th reunion.  It doesn't seem like it has been that long ago!  I've been slowly reconnecting with people through Facebook, so I've been catching up with what people have been doing.  Hope everyone has a great time together!!  I can be contacted at pncarlson@mac.com

Comment: 40 years?  Can't be.  I'm not that old.

So what has changed in the past five years?  I am still teaching, now alongside my husband in a small alternative middle and high school. We have the whole range of students from those entering 9th grade at 12 years old, to those who are incredibly credit deficient as seniors.  It's a challenge every day and we love it.  We are threatening to retire in two years, but I know we'll have to reassess when get to that point.

Our son, Connor is now a U.S. Air Force second lieutenant (veterans, don't make fun of him!) stationed at Whiteman AFB in Missouri, my last AF duty station.  He's an intelligence officer and we're hoping he'll make it a career.  I just wish my father had lived long enough to see him in uniform.

Last year we purchased a couple of Can-Am Spyders and have been trying to get out on them as much as possible.  I love it!  I had never been a motorcycle rider before and decided three wheels is better for the old lady.  We've also been doing more traveling since we have a great cat-sitter.  We went to Nicaragua a couple years ago and are packing for an Alaskan cruise this summer.

I am so looking forward to October after having such a great time five years ago.  See you in a few months!

Occupation: Toxicologist
Comment: Wow, it’s hard to believe so many years have passed since we walked across the stage.  From that day my life has been an interesting journey on a road full of twists and turns.  After earning a chemistry degree from Gustvaus I lived in Illinois, Georgia, and Colorado for 10 years.  During that time I was involved in drug research and environmental work.  Subsequently I’ve lived in the Twin Cities where I’ve been a consultant and scientist.  Though I never cared much for high school I did eventually develop a love of learning which led me to complete master’s degrees in chemistry and engineering along with a doctorate in toxicology.  These days I work for Medtronic where I serve as the corporate toxicologist, which is a pretty cool job.  In my spare time I’m still a bicycle nut and enjoy riding single-track trails.  After my parents passed away trips to Mankato became less frequent.  Nevertheless, it remains one of my favorite places.  Someday when I retire I’d like to move back there and open a bike shop!
